A partnership

October 19, 2008

Tim and I have been working on a blog together. My posts will be at the new location. I hope to hear from you …….. here.

I just completed a yoga workshop with Coeli Marsh. It was about getting the right tools so that we, as students, could make the right choices in our practice.

I have always felt that yoga is like an imitate relationship. Sometimes I want to be there and things feel easy. Other times, I want to just check out and every little thing feels like a struggle.

Like the yoga workshop, it important to have the right tools in relationships so that you can make the right choices.

In yoga the rights tools are breath and alignment. In relationship the right tools are patience, compassion, a willingness to always own your 50% of what works and what doesn’t and having a way to talk about important issues that does not make the other person wrong.

Always fall back on the tools. They are always there…..in yoga and relationships.

Pearadise

August 14, 2008

I try to bring my lunch to work everyday. It is much cheaper and frankly, the food is better. It also allows me to indulge in eating multiple, smaller meals throughout the day. A typical day at work, food-wise might be:

  • A cup of black tea or chai
  • Plain, whole milk yogurt with maple syrup and granola
  • Carrots and hummus
  • A cashew butter and jam sandwich
  • Nuts and raisins
  • A cookie or two with some herbal tea

Occasionally I will indulge in a sandwich from Oxford Spa and Cafe. Today I ordered one of their specials and it was out of this world. The PEARadise : bacon, figs, pears, blue cheese and balsamic vinaigrette.

Buen provecho!

Daily meditation

August 1, 2008

Before my son was born, I practiced Transcendental Meditation. I meditated for 20 minutes, twice a day. Once in the morning and a second time upon returning home. Some of my greatest insights, and most trippy experiences came when I was meditating. Group meditations provided even more profound moments. I slowly got out of practice and eventually stopped doing it all together. My manta is still in my bag of tricks. I use it at the dentist. More recently, I have focused on seven precepts taken from Awakening Beauty the Dr. Hauschka Way.

I find they offer a focus for the day that is manageable and helpful.

Here is the precept for Fridays:

Right Memory. Memory can be source of joy, pain and learning. Start the day by meditating on a few of your many accomplishments. Remember how you overcame obstacles and succeeded in the face of challenges. Realize that your memory can be a source of learning and evolution. Throughout the day, be alert to how previous experiences, both good and bad, have helped you succeed and fulfill your dreams.

I wanted to give Connie’s a little plug. I ate my breakfast and lunch there and also left with some baked goods.

Homecooked food made with love and fresh ingredients. The best combination.

Exercising old muscles

July 26, 2008

Today, on a whim, I went to the Cape Cod National Seashore. I put my bike on my car, left the house by 7pm and was at Race Point eating breakfast at 9:30am and biking by 10:00am. The scenery was breathtaking. More importantly, the trip exercised an old muscle. With not much alone time with family, mothering and work, I had forgotten how easy it is to pack up and go. My son is with his dad. My partner is on his annual fishing trip. It was easy. No grand plan. A little snack, some water, a bathing suit and towel. Try it sometime.

This was my breakfast AND lunch spot

Bias Design founders, Jon Nutting and Krista Siana, were featured in today’s Boston Globe. They hand screen t-shirts. This one, in particular caught my eye.

Boredom

July 22, 2008

It is something I don’t experience much anymore. Even in long business meetings I can keep it at bay. I have plenty to ponder, consider and worry about. My son, on the other hand, is uncomfortable with boredom, as most children are. I think he fears that once it sets in, it will never go away. Summer is a blessing and curse. Boredom is a regular complaint from my son, but it comes with the pleasures of summer that we both long for and love. Longer mornings. Vacation. Spontaneity. Late nights. Later bedtimes.

From a friend:

July 15, 2008

today, under the cap of my snapple tea bottle, i discovered that the average human spends two full weeks of their life kissing. so make sure you are getting your share, and for those of us who aren’t you who can should do some extra to keep that average up.
